Report reaching us has it that on the 21st day of April, 2022 at or about 2:30pm when personnel of the Nigerian Army stationed at Tse-Wuaze, Zaki Biam, Ukum Local Governmwnt Area of Benue State stormed the Court premises, assaulted, tortured and battered the sitting Magistrate of the Upper Area Court, Sankera, the learned D.T. Utsaha, Esq. and other staff of the Benue State Judiciary.
Reports from eye witnesses recount that the soldiers who appeared to have been returning from Chito in Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State went beserk on the frolic of beating anyone at sight when they got to Sankera where the said Court is sited, almost abutting the Zaki-Biam-Wukari thoroughfare.
The learned Magistrate, who had risen for the day and was taking a deserved rest under the cool shade of a mango tree within the premises of the Court was accosted by the soldiers and, even after properly identifying himself and his staff, the khaki boys pounced on them like a hawk upon a chick, leaving them with various degrees of wounds.
Up to this moment, it has not been gathered any reasonable or probable cause giving rise to the unprovoked attack meted out to the revered judex.
It is however a notorious fact, proof of which is taken for granted, that some security operatives in the Sankera axis have cashed in on the security challenges of the area to further subject the locals to untold suffering while profiting hugely from the same insecurity.
While the event is regretted, it has been confirmed that formal complaints have been laid to the appropriate authorities for investigation and possible prosecution of the culprits.
My sympathies lie with the learned Magistrate and his staff. They're however assured that the long arm of the law shall surely catch us with those hoodlums in army uniforms.
